Annual Conference
Announcement regarding the 2011 Virginia Annual Conference by Bishop Charlene P. Kammerer, Ms. Shirley Cauffman (Conference Lay Leader), and the Rev. Marc Brown (Director of Connectional Ministries):
To assist in the voting process for General and Jurisdictional Conference delegates, the date for the 2011 Virginia Annual Conference has been adjusted to June 15 – 19, 2011. Annual Conference will begin with the Clergy Session and Laity Session at 7:00 p.m. on the evening of June 15. The selection of a nominating ballot for clergy delegates for General and Jurisdictional Conference will be included as part of the Clergy Session. An opportunity to meet laity delegates for General and Jurisdictional Conferences will be offered following the Laity Session.
Opening ballots for both laity and clergy members will be conducted during the June 16 morning session of annual conference and additional ballots will be received throughout the annual conference.
Election of District Delegates to Annual Conference 2011
We are in the process of selecting nominees to be elected as lay members-at-large to the 2011 Annual Conference, to be held June 15-19, 2011 in Roanoke. We will be electing both delegates and alternates at the District Conference on November 20th. Pastors and laity are urged to submit names for nomination to the District Office no later than October 15, 2010 so that your bio can be posted on the District Website to be reviewed prior to District Conference. (We will post Bio content only - no contact information.) If you are nominating someone else, please be sure to obtain your nominee’s permission prior to filing out this form. Then complete the form below and please include a brief biography of the nominee. (Try to limit the biography to 50 words.)

Additional Opportunities include:
- Help set up hogans and welcome mentors and campers on Sunday
- Lead an evening of games and activities
- Bring a special treat – watermelon or ice cream for one evening
- Assist with a new and special opportunity of Wednesday evening at 7 – the campers will be making prayer blankets that will be sent to Haiti (donations of fleece 42”X56” is needed) so persons with fabric scissors to assist with making these no-sew prayer blankets are needed
- Rest time activity leaders each day (many of the campers are not interested in rest time but mentors may need it) so right after lunch persons can involve campers in board games, puzzles or basketball or crafts
- Persons interested in packing school back packs prior to the end of camp
Ashland District Conference & Leadership Training
On Saturday, November 20th, the Ashland District will host a combined District Conference and Local Church Officer’s Training Workshops. The event will take place at Shady Grove UMC, in Mechanicsville from 9am – 12:30 pm.
The keynote Speaker is Rev. Marc Brown, Conference Director of Connectional Ministries. Marc will also present two workshops- “Speaking Order to Chaos,” and “Fishing on the Right Side of the Boat.” Ten other workshops are being offered as well.
This event will offer you the opportunity to hear how the district is doing effective and fruitful ministries. The workshops will help to equip Local Church Officers for ministry in the church and community. Make plans now to attend and be part of this exciting event!

Ashland District Heart Havens Home!
Work continues on the upcoming Ashland Heart Havens Home! The Heart Havens ministry has been addressing the need in Virginia for housing and services for adults with disabilities since 2004. Heart Havens provides a single residential home for 4 – 6 adults of any faith, race, age and gender with physical and mental disabilities.
